2022 April PAD Challenge: Day 5

Here we go: The first Two-for-Tuesday prompt of the 2022 April Poem-A-Day Challenge! For first timers or those with short memories, I provide two prompts on Tuesdays, and poets get to decide whether to write one type of poem, the other type of poem, and/or tackle both simultaneously (or separately).

Here are the Two-for-Tuesday prompts:

  1. Write a Make Sense poem, and/or…
  2. Write a Don’t Make Sense poem.

Remember: These prompts are springboards to creativity. Use them to expand your possibilities, not limit them.

Poetry Writing Virtual Conference

Writer’s Digest University is pleased to present a one-of-a-kind online event for poetry writers! On April 9, 2022, our WDU Poetry Writing Virtual Conference will provide expert insights from FOUR award-winning and bestselling poets on the finer points of how to write poetry. Spend the day learning techniques for honing your craft from four different published poets, then (if you choose) you can have one of your poems (up to 40 lines) critiqued by one of our participating poets. The poet will provide you with a personalized critique of your poem.

Here’s my attempt at a Make Sense and/or Don’t Make Sense Poem:

“dream”

some dreams make sense;
others don’t even try;
they fly above mountains
of meaning & reality;
birds become giant lizards
& the moon turns itself
into a mirror or maybe
we tend to see our
reflection in nearly every
thing at all times & that’s
how we find meaning
in meaningless rocks
& minerals & line
breaks & paragraphs &
the only thing that makes
sense to me is a world
in which i dream of you.
