Art Blocks: Snowfro, Tyler Hobbs, and More on the Rise of Generative NFT Art
There are few names as synonymous with generative art NFTs as Snowfro. The moniker of Art Blocks Creator Erick Calderon, Snowfro is widely considered a pioneer in the NFT space, known for helping elevate artists via Art Blocks, and solidifying generative art as a robust sector of the NFT space by way of his influential Chromie Squiggles project.
Yet, despite the Snowfro’s prestige, the man behind the name has remained in awe of his own accomplishments, and still expresses astonishment at the fact that pieces from his collections continue to frequently sell for six figures. But beyond his own personal success, his Art Blocks platform has surpassed still greater expectations, becoming the go-to place for generative art in Web3.
In this episode of Behind The Drop, we travel to Marfa, Texas to hang out with Calderon and learn more about his generative art projects. We also sat down with artists Tyler Hobbs and Alida Sun to learn about their approach to generative art. As a platform, Art Blocks provides generative artists with much-needed tools to code, mint, and sell their artwork on the blockchain.
Some popular Art Blocks collections include Chromie Squiggles, The Friendship Bracelet Project, Fidenza, Eternal Pump, and many more. Calderon’s latest Art Blocks initiative, The Friendship Bracelet Project, is a collection of more than 24,000 unique friendship bracelets made by Alexis André. This project brings NFTs from digital to physical and provides holders instructions for how to make a simple bracelet using a few dollars’ worth of embroidery floss.
Watch now to learn more about Calderon’s creative process.
