Traversing the world of non-fungibles is a daunting task. With so many new NFT projects, artists, and large-scale collections cropping up weekly, it’s become nearly impossible to keep up with every subsequent development. In the past, a simple browse of OpenSea was enough to find the latest NFT craze. But things have changed drastically since the 2021 NFT boom. Now, NFT enthusiasts have to be acutely mindful of what and where they collect. To aid in the unearthing of awe-inspiring NFT endeavors both new and old, nft now presents Undervalued: a weekly column highlighting innovative projects, collections, and artists pushing the […]

When Nike announced in late 2021 that it had acquired Web3 content developer RTFKT Studios, the news went right under the noses of the sneaker and apparel brand’s most die-hard fans. But the wider Web3 community took notice — particularly those tuned into the NFT space. With this new acquisition, Nike made its intent to carve a name for itself on the metaverse clear. The first step toward that lofty goal? NFTs. Today, thanks to the rapidly-growing CloneX NFT collection that launched in November 2021, it looks like Nike may reproduce its IRL cultural capital on Web3. In spite of […]

Hoping to spearhead the coming evolution in the film and entertainment industries is actor David Bianchi. To quote a meme, we live in a society. But the multidisciplinary artist Gossamer Rozen gets this better than most. A seeming jack-of-all-trades, the path to notoriety for the transgender, nonbinary, femme, Filipino/Black fine-art creator has been very complicated. But, despite nearly a decade of not making money from their art, Rozen continued creating, not in the hopes of acquiring greatness, but to achieve a different kind of success, through being true to who they are. “Growing up with a lot of different mental health issues and having come out as transgender when I was 24, art really helped me […]

WATCH: These Artists Want You to Help Define Web3

What does a ‘decentralized’ internet even mean anyway? Within the realms of the NFT space — and Web3 as a whole — the interpretation of that ideal varies significantly. In the realm of blockchain gaming, titles like Decentraland are building towards it by providing scores of users with the tools to bring their dream game worlds to life. On the other hand, Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin sees Soulbound Tokens as the fundamental building blocks for a future decentralized society. For others, building towards decentralization isn’t such a grand affair. It’s all a matter of execution — and perspective. For the […]

In our latest episode of Behind The Drop, we got an inside look at Sneaks Of Nature — canvas art brand IKONICK’s upcoming debut in the NFT space. The forthcoming project hopes to pave the way for sneaker culture’s continued presence in the NFT landscape. How? By providing prospective collectors with the opportunity to participate in an interactive story centered on sneaker culture. According to the official Sneaks Of Nature OpenSea page, it’s in rarified air as “the first franchise developed around sneaker culture.” Of course, under that franchise’s umbrella is an NFT collection. By owning one of 3,333 Sneaks […]

If you’re wondering how NFTs — essentially tokenized JPEGs — have sold for millions of dollars in the past few years, here’s the short answer that most people would give you: It’s because they’re art, and art is inherently valuable. Really. Many people think it’s as simple as that. However, we’ve also seen digital collectibles like NBA Top Shot and PFP NFT projects like CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club fetch eye-watering prices on the open market. Neither of the aforementioned can be accurately characterized as art and art alone. So the question remains: What exactly makes an NFT valuable? […]
