Celebrated Web3-based artist Claire Silver has teamed up with Unit London to curate the gallery’s latest exhibition, E-Motions. The exhibition takes a close look at the relationship between artists and technology, specifically, those who collaborate with artificial intelligence and the communion that instills. Another underlying theme of the exhibition is the phenomenon of hikikomori, a cultural movement that continues to spread throughout Japan and other parts of the world. The exhibition is brought to life through the lens of 26 different participating artists, five of whom we’ve highlighted below. The Concept Hikikomori, which when literally translated into English means to […]

Google’s DeepMind and Google Cloud revealed a new tool that will help it to better identify when AI-generated images are being utilized, according to an August 29 blog post. SynthID, which is currently in beta, is aimed at curbing the spread of misinformation by adding an invisible, permanent watermark to images to identify them as computer-generated. It is currently available to a limited number of Vertex AI customers who are using Imagen, one of Google’s text-to-image generators.  This invisible watermark is embedded directly into the pixels of an image created by Imagen and remains intact even if the image undergoes […]

AI Ranks Among the Top Percentile in Creative Thought

Of all the forms of human intellect that one might expect artificial intelligence to emulate, few people would likely place creativity at the top of their list. Creativity is wonderfully mysterious – and frustratingly fleeting. It defines us as human beings – and seemingly defies the cold logic that lies behind the silicon curtain of machines. Yet, the use of AI for creative endeavors is now growing. New AI tools like DALL-E and Midjourney are increasingly part of creative production, and some have started to win awards for their creative output. The growing impact is both social and economic – as […]

The rise of artificial intelligence in the world of creativity has revolutionized various sectors, with fashion and design being no exception. This confluence of machine intelligence and human creativity has not only expanded the horizons of design possibilities but also sparked intense debate regarding its implications. We sat with creative director and digital artist turned AI Fashion designer Baris Gencel, to discuss one of his infamous collections, ‘Metamorphosis,’ Monarch Butterly, a digital collection of art pieces depicting the transformation of the fashion industry, reborn through AI. As well as the impact of AI in his current work and the overall […]

3 Ways AI is Transforming Music

Each fall, I begin my course on the intersection of music and artificial intelligence by asking my students if they’re concerned about AI’s role in composing or producing music. So far, the question has always elicited a resounding “yes.” Their fears can be summed up in a sentence: AI will create a world where music is plentiful, but musicians get cast aside. In the upcoming semester, I’m anticipating a discussion about Paul McCartney, who in June 2023 announced that he and a team of audio engineers had used machine learning to uncover a “lost” vocal track of John Lennon by separating the instruments […]

Four years ago, language transition startup Unbabel worked towards creating a “brain-to-communications interface” that would allow businesses to understand (and be understood) by their customers and clients in multiple languages. Its Language Operations platform blends artificial intelligence (AI) with humans that evolve through high-quality transactions and conversations over time.  “You Had an Americano”  As a startup with $90 million in VC funding and annual revenues around $50 million while simultaneously surviving the COVID-19 pandemic, Unbabel has concentrated its efforts on better understanding the ways in which our brains have evolved.  TechCrunch’s Mike Butcher spent an entire afternoon in New York […]

Google is testing an internal AI tool that supposedly will be able to provide individuals with life advice and at least 21 different tasks, according to an initial report from The New York Times.  “I have a really close friend who is getting married this winter. She was my college roommate and a bridesmaid at my wedding. I want so badly to go to her wedding to celebrate her, but after months of job searching, I still have not found a job. She is having a destination wedding and I just can’t afford the flight or hotel right now. How […]
