Keeping up with the world of non-fungibles can be daunting. With so many new NFT projects, artists, and large-scale collections cropping up weekly, it’s become nearly impossible to stay ahead of every new and exciting development.

In the past, finding the latest NFT craze was as simple as scrolling around on OpenSea. But things have changed drastically since the 2021 NFT boom. But now, NFT enthusiasts must be mindful of what and where they collect.

To help you find the most awe-inspiring NFT endeavors both new and old, nft now presents Undervalued: a weekly column highlighting innovative projects, collections, and artists pushing the NFT space forward.

Kingship

Kingship, launched July 14, 2022, is a 5,000-piece Key Card NFT collection linked to the Bored Ape music group of the same name. Said to unlock the world of Kingship, each NFT within the collection provides holders with access to music, exclusive content, utility, community, and token-gated experiences over time.

Since Kingship is one of the most robust use-cases for monetizing Bored Ape Yacht Club IP within the music industry, this latest collection from the supergroup — consisting of three rare Bored Apes and a rare Mutant Ape — showcases yet another avenue of utility. Specifically, it demonstrates how BAYC NFTs (and similarly licensed NFTs) can travel through the metaverse and build community through exclusive offerings, yielding new possibilities for the bottom line.

CryptoCitizens

CryptoCitizens, launched in June 2021, is an ongoing generative portrait collection of 10,000 NFTs powered by Art Blocks. Cropping up in cities worldwide, the project combines pixel art with location-based NFT minting to create not only a PFP collection but the slowly growing Bright Moments DAO.

Slated for completion by the end of 2023, the CryptoCitizens lineup will have made its way throughout 10 different cities across the globe. As an NFT collection and growing community-owned and -led project, CryptoCitizens provides an interesting use case for bootstrapping a DAO through membership-based NFTs.

Drip Drop

Drip Drop, launched on June 16, 2022, is a batch of 1,111 1/1 NFTs from acclaimed photographer and crypto-artist Dave Krugman. A cohesive collection of photography NFTs, Drip Drop is said to be an homage to generative art from projects like Art Blocks.

Taking inspiration from works like Chromie Squiggles, Fidenzas, and Ringers, Krugman teamed up with Transient Labs for his unique generative undertaking. Said by Krugman to be “a study of the generative beauty of the universe, as viewed through the lens of rain hitting puddles in Times Square,” Drip Drop is a testament to novel NFT drop mechanics and the slow burn/growth of a multi-collection ecosystem from an independent creator.

CryptoDickbutts

CryptoDickbutts, launched in March 2021, is possibly one of the most notorious meme-based collections in all of NFTs. Born out of a character created for a webcomic by KC Green, the “Dick Butt” has come to dominate the humor-based PFP market, outshining similar comical projects for over a year.

Based on pixel-art characters that are modeled after penises and butts, the project has attained a surprising amount of staying power within the ever-changing NFT market. Although the NFTs within the Dickbutt collection offer little utility to their holders, the collection lives as an example of the NFT community’s collective sense of humor, and the ever-growing profitable market for meme collections.

Nike Dunk Genesis, launched on April 22, 2022, is a collaborative NFT collection from digital fashion powerhouse RTFKT and legacy sportswear brand Nike. A cross between metaverse wearables and physical goods, the project is centered around the famous Nike Dunk shoe.

This latest collection from RTFKT comes as one of the first major releases following Nike’s acquisition of the fan-favorite brand. Dunk Genesis is unique in that it features Nike’s distinctive style, showcasing the potential for the shoemaking superpower to expand its tried-and-true products into a new consumer base with their eyes on the metaverse.
