The Creators of the First NFT Talk New Collection, Web3 Future

Jennifer and Kevin McCoy need little introduction. Ten years ago, the acclaimed artists introduced the world to Quantum, the first art NFT ever created. Quantum found its home on the Namecoin blockchain in 2014, when Kevin McCoy decided to mint it as an NFT to establish the provenance of the digital image.  The Web3 world might see minting an NFT for such a reason as a banality these days, but in 2014, the idea was revolutionary. Provenance documents for digital art didn’t exist at the time, and Quantum showed the world that blockchain technology could solve the problem of ownership […]

In the past year, DeGods has defied expectations to become the ultimate NFT comeback story. Born on Solana, the large-scale PFP endeavor and its counterpart, y00ts, have continued to drive conversation surrounding the cross-chain compatibility of generative avatars while simultaneously planning to branch over to Ethereum and Polygon, respectively. Now, DeGods has decided to take its multi-chain endeavors a sizeable step further by bridging a select set of NFTs from the original Solana collection over to Bitcoin as Ordinals Inscriptions. Dubbed “DeGods on Bitcoin,” this latest venture will introduce a first-of-its-kind minting experience on Bitcoin and is said by Dust […]

If you’ve been around the NFT space, you’ve likely seen Nouns’ playful pixel art images featuring signature bright colors and simple blocky designs. As time goes on, you’ll definitely see these unique characters more and more frequently. Unlike most NFT projects that have a set number of supply before mint, Nouns is an infinite work of art. One Noun NFT is generated every single day “forever.” As a community-driven brand, Nouns aims to use its open-source IP to empower holders to fund their most ambitious dreams and business ideas with their NFTs as the face of the projects. Web3 and Hollywood: How Omega Runner is Democratizing Storytelling

Comments are off for this post.
It’s no secret that Hollywood is small. For decades, a select group of industry gatekeepers has dictated what and where stories were told. No matter how talented, most people won’t ever get to pitch their ideas to the teams capable of bringing them to life. But even with this knowledge, few truly realize how difficult chasing this dream is. Roughly 50,000 screenplays are registered with the Writer’s Guild of America each year — but in 2021, 403 movies were released in the United States and Canada. That’s less than a one percent chance to get your script made into a […]

14 Women and Women-Led Projects Building the Future of Web3

The face of Web3 is not what you think it is. The idea that it’s the exclusive arena for wealthy finance-turned-crypto bros is an inflated stereotype that finds less and less grounding in reality with each passing day. The stubborn perception that it is, however, remains undeniably potent.  Being airbrushed from history in just about any field or industry is nothing new to women, which is why it’s crucial that the Web3 community acknowledge those driving the space forward while they’re doing it, not just in retrospect. Just as NASA’s early successes in the 1950s and 60s would not have […]

Five years ago, Misan Harriman picked up a camera for the first time. Three years ago, he became the first Black man to shoot a cover for British Vogue in the magazine’s 104-year history. Today, he’s on a mission to use Web3 to level the playing field for artists around the world. As someone who’s struggled with dyslexia and was afraid to pick up his camera for years, Harriman’s journey is as much about personal and artistic growth as it is about the democratizing potential of blockchain technology. Finding his artistic voice Shortly after he picked up his camera for […]

Op-ed: The NFT Space Won’t Grow If We Continue to Cater to Speculators

When I got involved with NFTs in 2018, it was an extremely different industry. There was almost no venture capital. At the time, the NFT space felt distinct from the rest of crypto. There was a sense that NFTs were the real use case that crypto needed — not just something to speculate on like ICOs, or a tool to make speculation easier like DeFi. Fast forward to today, and things couldn’t be more different. I can’t pinpoint exactly when it happened, but around the middle of 2021, NFTs fully merged with the rest of the crypto world. They became […]

A Web3 Cautionary Tale: The Biggest NFT Brands Had Funds in SVB

On March 10, after days of uncertainty spurred on by $1.8 billion in surprise bond losses, Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) collapsed, sending a tidal wave’s worth of ripple effects throughout the financial industry. The event quickly prompted the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve, and the FDIC to step in to effectively circumvent catastrophe and assure depositors of access to all of their funds, whether insured or not. While the situation is still developing, the seeming fiasco has left those in traditional finance to shudder in remembrance of the 2008 financial crisis. Yet, the context of the collapse — that SVB was […]
