What Can Web3 Do for Turkey and Syria?

Comments are off for this post.
It’s difficult to frame the scale of the devastation and loss of human life that has taken place in southern Turkey and northern Syria in the last week. The numbers only do so much to convey the gravity of the disaster; on February 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck near the Turkish city of Gaziantep at 4:17 in the morning, instantly leveling buildings and killing thousands across dozens of municipalities. As people began to sift through the rubble to rescue family members in the bitter Anatolian winter air, a second quake hit, nearly as strong as the first, registering at 7.5 […]

Bitcoin Ordinals Wallets Have Arrived

The rapid rise of Bitcoin Ordinals continues. With over 123,000 Ordinals inscriptions now forever written onto the Bitcoin blockchain — and a thriving trading and auction scene for the most sought-after (read: low inscription number) tokens and collections — Bitcoin’s status as an NFT ecosystem has been secured. While the chain’s version of NFTs has begun to proliferate in recent weeks, those looking to actually interact with the chain and obtain an Ordinal have had to deal with an opaque, sluggish, and centralized tech framework. It was only a matter of time before Web3 developers started to fill the demand […]

$BLUR is finally here. After delaying the launch of the platform’s native token in January, the NFT marketplace officially began letting users redeem care packages for the token at 1:30 p.m. ET on February 14, 2023. The run-up to the launch has been marked by much anticipation, with popular exchange Coinbase tweeting that it would list the token if liquidity conditions are met and Blur’s trading volume surging in the last month, cementing its spot as one of the top ten NFT marketplaces in existence.  How did Blur manage to do all of this in such a short time? And […]

Bitcoin NFTs: The 20 Most Notable Ordinals Inscriptions

Comments are off for this post.
When software engineer Casey Rodarmor launched the Ordinals protocol on Bitcoin in January 2023, he sparked a movement on the blockchain. Now, NFTs can be minted on the Bitcoin mainnet. This news lit up the Web3 world as few other things have in its history, resulting in a fair amount of protest and excitement from the Bitcoin community. Purists (called Bitcoin Maxis) labeled the protocol an attack on the network, while others began gleefully minting Inscriptions — Bitcoin’s “native” version of NFTs — to their heart’s content. Much attention has been paid to the global amount and order of Ordinals […]

What NFT Marketplaces Support Creator Royalties? A Guide

Comments are off for this post.
Creator royalties: Love them or hate them, it cannot be denied that they provide central appeal for artists looking to make a blockchain-based living from their craft. Through royalties, creators receive recurring income whenever their works change hands through the various NFT marketplaces that populate the blockchain. This makes it possible for many in Web3, regardless of status, to sustain themselves from project to project. In 2022, though, creator royalties came under fire. Emerging as a major point of contention within the NFT space, the decisions of major marketplaces effectively shook up the established Web3 royalty dynamic, making it clear […]

Bitcoin NFTs? Ordinals Inscriptions Explained (Finding, Buying, & More)

Comments are off for this post.
Bitcoin Ordinals have taken over Web3 — at least, that’s how it seems. The space has been buzzing since software engineer Casey Rodarmor launched the protocol on January 21, with some excited about the new upgrade and others swearing Ordinals off entirely. Despite all the notoriety, fewer than 40,000 Ordinals exist at the time of writing. So why are Ordinals so scarce? The vast majority of people simply don’t yet know how to buy them, let alone create them. With higher barriers to entry, that means potential opportunities abound. But it also means higher risks. If you’re ready to take […]

Interview: Ryan Carson Opens Up About the Flux Controversy

Comments are off for this post.
There’s a poignant irony to the fact that Ryan Carson’s Twitter background is Norman Rockwell’s iconic 1961 painting, “The Golden Rule.” The image, which prominently displays the words, “Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You,” perfectly captures the spirit of discussion that Carson’s recent actions have caused the Web3 community to confront like never before.  After fumbling the announcement of a new Web3 fund called Flux, the serial entrepreneur and host of the NFT Twitter Space, The Daily Dose, has found both his business acumen and character subject to a harsh interrogation by the NFT community […]

Jack Butcher’s Checks Derivatives Have Taken Over Web3

Comments are off for this post.
Without a doubt, Jack Butcher’s Checks VV is taking over Web3. What began as an artistic experiment and social commentary on the concepts underpinning Web2 and Web3 has grown well beyond the walls of its own making. At this point, Checks’ identity has shown up in derivative projects that span everything from early 2000s memes to Web3 tropes to classical art. The official Checks VV website features a page dedicated to these derivatives and currently displays 415 of them. Hell, we even gave our logo the Checks VV treatment. Given the breadth and depth of Checks’ reach, we may be […]

The Alpha: Reddit’s Collectible Avatars (which are definitely not NFTs) are back. After teasing their release last week, the social media platform dropped the Super Bowl LVII x Reddit Collectible Avatar collection yesterday in collaboration with the NFL. The NFTs are free and, like Reddit’s previous drops, provide owners with unique benefits on the platform. Users can choose between four types of NFTs to mint: an Eagles, Chiefs, The Champs, or LVII Super Fans collectible. Redditors are limited to minting one per account. So far, more than 651,800 of the avatars have been minted. Currently, the collection has a floor […]

How Ordinals Fractured the Bitcoin Community (and Why It Was Necessary)

Comments are off for this post.
The new Ordinals protocol just made everyone’s answer to the question “What is Bitcoin?” a lot more complicated. Software engineer Casey Rodarmor launched the protocol on the Bitcoin mainnet on January 21. It allows digital artifacts like images, text, programs, and even video games to be inscribed directly on the Bitcoin blockchain. In other words, Ordinals means NFTs on Bitcoin. This upgrade has caused a rift in the Bitcoin community. Some purists are calling Ordinals an attack on Bitcoin, while others are using it to troll over-serious Bitcoin enthusiasts known as Maxis, loading as much superfluous data into each block […]
