Quantum: The Story Behind the World’s First NFT

Despite what many may believe, NFT art didn’t start with the Bored Ape Yacht Club. It also didn’t start with CryptoPunks. So what was the first NFT, and who created it? Ultimately, this singular honor goes to Quantum, a generative piece of art that was created by digital artists Jennifer and Kevin McCoy. After its creation, Quantum was subsequently turned into an NFT by Kevin in 2014. And the reason he minted this particular piece of art? It’s really rather simple. He did it for ownership. The birth of NFTs After he and his wife created Quantum, McCoy wanted to […]

The Alpha Crypto payment platform MoonPay announced that it will partner with filmmaker, producer, and photographer Julie Pacino on her upcoming movie, I Live Here Now, according to a press release shared with nft now. The company will serve as Co-Executive Producer. The film marks Pacino’s feature-length directorial debut and is based on her 2021 NFT photography collection of the same name. Its production makes it the first NFT-native photography IP to inspire a film. Funded in part by Pacino’s follow-up collection to I Live Here Now, Keepers of the Inn, the film has yet to receive a release date […]

The Creators of the First NFT Talk New Collection, Web3 Future

Jennifer and Kevin McCoy need little introduction. Ten years ago, the acclaimed artists introduced the world to Quantum, the first art NFT ever created. Quantum found its home on the Namecoin blockchain in 2014, when Kevin McCoy decided to mint it as an NFT to establish the provenance of the digital image.  The Web3 world might see minting an NFT for such a reason as a banality these days, but in 2014, the idea was revolutionary. Provenance documents for digital art didn’t exist at the time, and Quantum showed the world that blockchain technology could solve the problem of ownership […]

14 Women and Women-Led Projects Building the Future of Web3

The face of Web3 is not what you think it is. The idea that it’s the exclusive arena for wealthy finance-turned-crypto bros is an inflated stereotype that finds less and less grounding in reality with each passing day. The stubborn perception that it is, however, remains undeniably potent.  Being airbrushed from history in just about any field or industry is nothing new to women, which is why it’s crucial that the Web3 community acknowledge those driving the space forward while they’re doing it, not just in retrospect. Just as NASA’s early successes in the 1950s and 60s would not have […]

The Summoning is finally here. The long-awaited next step in Yuga Labs’ months-long interactive NFT mint mechanic is sure to set the Web3 community alight. Thousands of Sewer Pass holders are getting ready to burn their tokens in exchange for a Power Source, the item needed to advance to the next stage of the mint and reveal an as-of-yet unknown new set of NFTs. The rest of the NFT world waits with bated breath; both supporters and critics of the Bored Ape Yacht Club brand are waiting to see what comes next for the project and how its effects will […]

Viewers can see the prints, which depict “healers, spiritualists, creatives, and family,” until April 8. Aversano tells nft now that he has a particularly intimate connection to the pieces in this exhibit. “All of these artworks, all these art projects really come from a place in myself of death,” he explains. We Asked Experts What the Future Holds for NFTs

The goal in Web3 is to stay ahead of the curve. Whether you’re a trader trying to buy low and sell high, a creator working to get in on the ground floor of a new trend, or an art collector looking to secure works before an artist rises to prominence, being early earns you both financial gains and community prestige. Of course, “winning” in Web3 is sometimes simply a case of good fortune. The collector who just happens to mint the rarest unrevealed NFT in a PFP collection surely does so with little insight into the future. That said, there […]

Runway: Get Ready for Metaverse Fashion Week

Welcome back to Runway, where we report to you from the frontlines of the digital fashion revolution. This week has been full of events. But before we dive in, I want to talk about Starbucks, the Seattle-based coffee giant. Starbucks Odyssey, the coffee company’s Web3 loyalty program, launched its first-ever NFTs this week. Dubbed the “Siren Collection,” it features different versions of the company’s Siren logo. The NFTs were priced at $100. Except that Starbucks isn’t calling them NFTs. They are “Stamps.” In any case, the 2,000-piece collection sold out in just 18 minutes! When did Starbucks enter web3?! In any […]
