Runway: Get Ready for Metaverse Fashion Week
Welcome back to Runway, where we report to you from the frontlines of the digital fashion revolution. This week has been full of events. But before we dive in, I want to talk about Starbucks, the Seattle-based coffee giant. Starbucks Odyssey, the coffee company’s Web3 loyalty program, launched its first-ever NFTs this week. Dubbed the “Siren Collection,” it features different versions of the company’s Siren logo. The NFTs were priced at $100. Except that Starbucks isn’t calling them NFTs. They are “Stamps.” In any case, the 2,000-piece collection sold out in just 18 minutes! When did Starbucks enter web3?! In any […]
Gmoney: The State of Web3 Luxury Rests With Creatives
In 2022, the NFT space witnessed the rise of “phygital” goods. Characterized as a melding of physical and digital, phygital has given the concept of ownership a new context by way of artists and developers turning their physical creations into NFTs, and vice versa. While phygital goods exist in a variety of forms, from sculptures to toys to paintings, potentially one of the most popular use cases to emerge from this new market sector has been wearables. Though the term “phygital” itself has become somewhat of a meme in Web3 due to its quite basic existence as a portmanteau, all […]
Are NFTs the Next Big Step for Sneaker Culture?
In our latest episode of Behind The Drop, we got an inside look at Sneaks Of Nature — canvas art brand IKONICK’s upcoming debut in the NFT space. The forthcoming project hopes to pave the way for sneaker culture’s continued presence in the NFT landscape. How? By providing prospective collectors with the opportunity to participate in an interactive story centered on sneaker culture. According to the official Sneaks Of Nature OpenSea page, it’s in rarified air as “the first franchise developed around sneaker culture.” Of course, under that franchise’s umbrella is an NFT collection. By owning one of 3,333 Sneaks […]

How The Rebels Beat Censorship and Built an NFT Community
In the fall of 2012, in Vilnius, Lithuania, Robert Kalinkin Fashion House released an ad campaign that featured a man and a woman posing as Jesus and the Virgin Mary wearing jeans and a dress from the company’s then-upcoming clothing line. “Jesus, what trousers!” one of the taglines read, along with “Dear Mary, what a dress!” and “Jesus, Mary, what are you wearing?” The campaign ran on the company’s website and on prominent billboards in the Lithuanian capital ahead of a fashion show that brand co-founders Robert Kalinkin and Indre Viltrakyte were organizing at the time. “It was a play […]
Gucci Will Now Accept Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Cryptocurrency
The luxury fashion retailer Gucci will now accept ApeCoin — the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s proprietary cryptocurrency — as a valid mode of payment in select US branches, according to a Tuesday tweet. Given ApeCoin’s origins as a limited, claimable cryptocurrency originally intended for Bored Ape and Mutant Ape holders, this partnership aims to offer holders of these esteemed NFTs and cryptocurrency a new way to represent their community IRL — via garments from the legacy high-fashion brand. In recent years, Gucci has been gradually planting its roots in Web3. In 2021, Gucci contributed to the massive bull run in […]
Luxury Brands Are a Great Example of Web3 Adaptation
Luxury brands and NFTs make for oddly comfortable bedfellows. High-end fashion has taken to NFTs more quickly and enthusiastically than other industries, and there seems to be a consensus that Web3 will undoubtedly play a huge role in its future. It makes a great deal of sense. Both high-fashion and NFTs operate on models of exclusivity and scarcity, which might help explain the industry’s receptiveness toward the technology in comparison with other traditional companies that have only reluctantly begun to dip their toes in Web3. The significance of luxury brands taking advantage of this new space constitutes more than just […]
