Exclusive: DeGods’ Kevin III Talks Bitcoin Branch, y00ts Future
In the past year, DeGods has defied expectations to become the ultimate NFT comeback story. Born on Solana, the large-scale PFP endeavor and its counterpart, y00ts, have continued to drive conversation surrounding the cross-chain compatibility of generative avatars while simultaneously planning to branch over to Ethereum and Polygon, respectively. Now, DeGods has decided to take its multi-chain endeavors a sizeable step further by bridging a select set of NFTs from the original Solana collection over to Bitcoin as Ordinals Inscriptions. Dubbed “DeGods on Bitcoin,” this latest venture will introduce a first-of-its-kind minting experience on Bitcoin and is said by Dust […]

BREAKING: Instagram is Disabling Its NFT Features
Moments ago, Instagram announced that it would be ending its work on digital collectibles (NFTs). In a Twitter thread, Stephane Kasriel, Commerce and FinTech Lead at Meta, announced that features supporting NFTs would be disabled across the platform. “We’re looking closely at what we prioritize to increase our focus. We’re winding down digital collectibles (NFTs) for now to focus on other ways to support creators, people, and businesses,” he wrote. Kasriel didn’t offer any reasoning or justification for the decision, but said that creating financial opportunities for creators “remains a top priority.” The company didn’t release any information about precisely […]

The Alpha: After a seven-month NFT campaign, Automobili Lamborghini is bringing its ‘Epic Road Trip” drop to a conclusion with a 60th-anniversary digital collectible and special airdrops to its most consistent collectors, according to a company press release shared with nft now. The celebratory collectible will be available to those who attend any of Lamborghini’s IRL 60th anniversary celebrations as well as those who visit Lamborghini dealerships via a QR code. The commemorative collectible will also be airdropped to those who collected two or more NFTs from the eight separate monthly drops throughout the campaign. All holders of the commemorative […]
No, NFTs Are Not Just Digital Collectibles
The terms non-fungible token (NFT) and digital collectible are increasingly used interchangeably. Not only is this incorrect, but it’s also reductive. The term “digital collectible” minimizes the potential of NFTs as an architectural software primitive, i.e., as a set of code that can be repurposed to build more sophisticated programs or interfaces. For a reasonably simple analogy, think of NFTs as websites. Anyone with a bit of coding knowledge can create a website. They are “hosted” using a unique identifier (URLs vs. contract addresses), can store and display data (text, images, video), and can execute code to perform desired outcomes. […]

Microcosms: CoinDesk Unveils Multi-Year NFT Access Pass for Consensus
The utility of Web3 conferences was once undisputed. However, things have changed in recent years. High ticket prices, poorly curated installations, and less-than-inspiring panels have left many dissatisfied. The consensus is that things need to change, and Consensus has answered the call (apologies for the pun). Curated by CoinDesk, Consensus is one of the biggest annual events in crypto and Web3. And it seems that the event team is evolving considerably for the 2023 iteration. Today, CoinDesk announced a series of partnerships aimed at creating a token-gated experience for the event. It’s centered on Microcosms — an NFT collection that […]
The Friendsies Fiasco: Rug Pull Rumors and Leadership Woes Explained
What is happening over at Friendsies? The kindness-themed NFT project, headed by FriendsWithYou founders Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, raised some major eyebrows in the Web3 community on February 21 when they tweeted that they’d be putting “a pause on Friendsies and all future digital goods for the time being.” Specifically, they cited market volatility and an inability to deliver the project as intended as reasons for the pause. Without further explanation, the team then deleted the Friendsies Twitter account. From rug pull accusations to a public offer to take over Frendsies, we dive into everything that happened next and […]
NFT Marketplace Wars: Blur Tells Users to Ban OpenSea
Yesterday, NFT marketplace Blur finally allowed users to redeem care packages for $BLUR, the platform’s native token. The event was highly anticipated and resulted in a significant market surge over the last month. Ultimately, the royalties-optional marketplace secured over $430 million in trading volume in the last 30 days. And yesterday, the money continued to flow. The event saw several top traders rake in more than $1 million worth of tokens. According to data from DappRadar, Blur’s 24-hour trading volume was around $9.5 million, making it second only to OpenSea, whose trading volume was approximately $12 million. Now, it seems that Blur is going […]
Here’s What Really Happened With DigiDaigaku’s Controversial Super Bowl Ad
NFTs didn’t take over this year’s Super Bowl like they did in 2022. But perhaps this was to be expected, considering the NFT space only recently began to emerge from a market lull. Despite a lack of blockchain-centric ads featured during the big game, NFTs still had a presence — and one that went far beyond Reddit’s highly successful collectible avatar collaboration with the NFL. We’re talking about DigiDaigaku, of course. An NFT-powered game created by Web3 startup Limit Break, DigiDaigaku made waves as one of the only Web3-leaning commercials to air during the Super Bowl. Although the project garnered […]
