The NFT space will do more than simply uphold the ideals of diversity and inclusion — the industry’s long-term success is contingent upon pushing these ideals further. Enter the launch of Filipino artist Vico Cham’s Shoebox Sketches collection: an upcoming NFT collection set to serve as Cham’s official debut in the NFT space. With the release of this project, the NFT marketplace gains a new perspective from a relatively uncommon source. Behind the artist: a unique cultural perspective So who exactly is this newcomer? An award-winning artist, for starters. Among Cham’s growing list of accolades in the art world is […]

In This Bear Market, NFT Communities Still Find Reasons to Celebrate

Sometimes, you need to focus on the good stuff in life. Even when the market’s down, we can still have nice things. Really nice things, in fact. At least that’s the perspective taken by Trevor Jones, the OG crypto artist behind the now iconic NFT artwork “Bitcoin Angel.” Jones, a traditional painter with a keen interest in the intersection of art and technology, wrote his name into NFT history with the piece when it sold for $3.2 million in February 2021, setting the record for the most expensive open-edition NFT artwork ever at the time. The sale was one of […]

The Best NFT Utility? Near-Space Travel.

The utility of an NFT can be a multitude of things: membership to an exclusive community or DAO, a ticket to a virtual or physical event, and much more. While the community is somewhat divided on whether NFTs actually need to have utility, much of the allure comes from gaining access to a one-of-a-kind experience. NFT Expoverse hopes to grant such an opportunity to one of its attendees on July 30, the second day in a jam-packed three days covering everything Web3 and NFTs. Via the Event Horizon Giveaway, one lucky eventgoer has the chance to do what only a small portion of […]

Why P2E NFT Games Need to Double-Down on ‘Play’ Instead of ‘Earn’

When Brazilian game developer Mark Venturelli virtually took the stage at Brazil’s International Games (BIG) Festival on July 8, he was ostensibly set to give a talk on his vision for the future of game design. Instead, Venturelli used his platform to deliver an impassioned speech to the festival’s attendees on why NFTs vis-à-vis play-to-earn (P2E) games are wholly incompatible with his personal vision for how game design should strive to progress in the coming years. A brave move, to say the least, considering that blockchain gaming platform Lakea was among the festival’s corporate partners. A cynical view of Web3 […]

Luxury Brands Are a Great Example of Web3 Adaptation

Luxury brands and NFTs make for oddly comfortable bedfellows. High-end fashion has taken to NFTs more quickly and enthusiastically than other industries, and there seems to be a consensus that Web3 will undoubtedly play a huge role in its future.  It makes a great deal of sense. Both high-fashion and NFTs operate on models of exclusivity and scarcity, which might help explain the industry’s receptiveness toward the technology in comparison with other traditional companies that have only reluctantly begun to dip their toes in Web3.  The significance of luxury brands taking advantage of this new space constitutes more than just […]

The Next Big Thing in NFTs? Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial intelligence has come a long way since games like Akinator started terrifying people on the internet in the mid-2000s. Thankfully, AI’s progression hasn’t gone in a direction that would see a real-world equivalent to the Geth rising up. Today, AI is used in many practical settings — like in our virtual assistants and in our cars — as well as in more creative settings, such as music production, writing, and yes, even NFTs. In the NFT space, AI-adjacent technologies have been used in generative art projects like Art Blocks. Herein, users can browse the site’s marketplace for styles they […]

Fire Sale Imminent? Three Arrows Capital Has $7.5 Million in NFTs

In the wide world of Web3, hacking attacks are far from the only threat you need to worry about with regard to the security of your assets. For some, particularly for those dealing with portfolios totaling in the millions, the biggest threat can be the market itself. This is particularly true in the case of financial entities in Web3. Since its foundation in 2012, Singapore-based crypto hedge fund Three Arrows Capital (3AC) has amassed a portfolio of digital assets valued at over $10 billion during the peak of 2021’s bull market. Following news from late June that they’d defaulted on […]

What Is the True Utility of IRL NFT Events?

Comments are off for this post.
Considering the current state of the continuously growing NFT market, the allure of in-person events is undeniable. A spinoff of the many crypto conventions of old, NFT conferences act as both a celebration of community and summits showcasing advancements in industry innovation. But why are they often so tiring, and at times even disappointing? Of course, each NFT event is unique. And interacting face-to-face with fellow NFT enthusiasts in lieu of everlasting DMs and emails is definitely a cause for celebration. But what is the true utility of lengthy and expensive conferences? In 2022, are these conferences themselves actually worth […]

5 NFT Projects on Tezos You Need To Know About

Looking to dive further into the NFT space? You can start by straying off the virtual beaten path and exploring projects hosted on blockchains besides the monolithic Ethereum network. One such blockchain that’s worth looking into is Tezos. Built by Kathleen and Arthur Breitman in 2017, this blockchain sets itself apart from its contemporaries in a few notable ways. Firstly, it’s capable of evolving and self-amending, which enables programs hosted on it to scale themselves up relatively quickly and reliably. Perhaps more importantly, though, Tezos is also renowned in NFT circles due to how it runs on a Proof-of-Stake consensus […]

Everything to Know About OpenSea’s Massive Data Breach

Last night, OpenSea — widely regarded as the world’s most popular NFT marketplace — dropped a bombshell of a blog post. According to their report, they use Customer.io as an email vendor. The problem? One of the vendor’s employees  “misused their employee access to download & share email addresses [of OpenSea’s userbase] with an unauthorized third party.” Ultimately, the scale of the security breach seems to be simply massive. A large chunk of OpenSea’s active user base of over 1.5 million, in addition to anyone who subscribed to its newsletter, may have had their email address compromised. “If you have […]
